It happens. You forgot the sunblock. Or you just wanted a nice tan and suddenly- where did the time go?
Ouch. A sunburn.
This happens to us every so often. When it does, I whip up a specific concoction with three simple ingredients: coconut oil, aloe vera, and lavender essential oil.
- Coconut oil has many skin soothing benefits and it will help to moisturize your skin. Because peeling will happen.
- Aloe vera is commonly used to cool and soothe burns.
- Lavender essential oil is my go to for skin irritation.
2 Tbls. coconut oil. We use this one.
3 medium aloe vera leaves, snip open with scissors and scrape out the goop. If using Pure Aloe Vera from a bottle use about 1 1/2 tablespoons.
4 drops lavender essential oil. Purchase quality essential oils here.
Mix and mash ingredients in a bowl with a fork until the goopy aloe is mixed in well. Spread gently onto sunburned skin a few times a day. The coconut oil will be a bit greasy so don’t put your fancy clothes over this until it’s soaked into your skin.
Important note: If you have I-can-hardly-move-it-hurts-so-bad sunburn, leave the coconut oil out for the first day. You may want to try some apple cider vinegar. Many folks swear by this for bad burns. Put some on a clean, cold wet rag and apply to sunburn for a couple of minutes. Then apply some aloe and lavender. We buy this apple cider vinegar.
Now take care of yourselves this summer! And go and safely enjoy the beautiful sunshine.
